Any Good Seller will Magnify their items, to show the Buyer Exactly the Condition of the Item. Without this you really cannot tell what you are buying. Dark pictures can sometimes Camouflage the Defects in an item eg:[Splits in Gold Bangles, Bracelets, Broken Lockets, Settings Damaged,Gemstone Chipped, Dented Items, No Claws etc], I am very wary unless I can see the item Clearly. Every Ebay Seller should have the Exact Weight & Item Measurements, so that you can picture in your mind, exactly what you are purcashing. Many do Not do this & wonder why they receive Bad Feedback, eg: Item Very Small, Low Weight, Childs Ring, Damaged Goods. Beware of Bad Pictures, where you cannot see the item clearly, or anyone who does Not have in Measurements & Weights.!

The stamps on English Jewellery, Assure you that the Item Has Been Assayed , By the Highest Standards in UK, so you  know you are Receiving, Genuine Full Content of Gold. Some Items have been Imported to UK & will usually have the 9k or 18k Stamp, as well as the Assay Office stamp.If they do not have the 9k  Stamp [All English Jewellery has Ct not K, unless it is Imported to UK} you can be assured that the Vintage Jewellery is Genuine English Made Jewellery.Since 1999, Many items are coming into UK from other Countries & this is Assayed at the Various Offices in Britain & they do Not require the Import Mark. More Reason why I try to only sell Vintage!!!! I am Not saying, English or British Jewellery is more superior than other Countries Gold, I am just saying that it Has Been Assayed, by the Highest Standards.

Always ask for Hallmarking, especially English, which will have eg: 9ct,375[Solid Gold] {NOT K, UNLESS IT HAS BEEN IMPORTED FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY & WILL HAVE THE BRITISH IMPORT MARK & BRITISH ASSAY OFFICE MARKING], 18ct,750[Solid Gold], Anchor[Birmingham]  Lions Head[London]Castle, Edinburgh[Scotland]Thistle [Chester],Year Made[RST]which can be researched in Google[British Hallmarks] & sometimes The Makers Initial.14 Ct Gold Was Introduced in 1932, when 15Ct & 12Ct were Discontinued.

English Antique Jewellery from the 1800's will sometimes have No Hallmarking at all, or maybe just A Thick 9CT 18CT[Every British Item, should have All Hallmarking from the British Council, especially from 1854 on], . In 1854 3 lower standards for gold were introduced 15,12 & 9, which had no standard mark, other than the carat numbers and the carat value in decimals. These standards were exempt from duty.Every item Without Hallmarking, should be Acid Tested to make sure you are definately Buying Solid Gold.To be fair gold items from the 1800's & early 1900's can sometimes have the hallmarking worn down so much, it is unable to see the carat value.

Legislation was passed in Britain for Antique Jewellery, Antique date is Now 1920 [Previously 1900].

 Some items will be listed as 9ct or 9k, but they are sometimes Plated Gold,Rolled Gold or GF [Gold Filled] always ask questions, if you are unsure.Sellers Listing Solid Gold  10K, 9K which is Imported from Overseas, can Sometimes be so Heavily Plated, that the Acid Test will Not Work. The only way to know, is Cut The gold in half. Sounds drastic, but this is True. This is another Reason I say, with Genuine Assayed Gold. GOLD FILLED JEWELLERY, from the early 1800-1900's, was actually made Superior to ANY Gold Filled Jewellery Made Today, but Remember it is1/20 10K OR 12K Gold Filled, Not Solid Gold & Will Tarnish  in Time., BUT FOR SOME REASON THE VINTAGE OR ANTIQUE  Gold Filled seems to last for years, so My Jeweller must be right. The Same applies for Rolled Gold, Gold Plated, Part Gold with Metal Core etc.These are All Coated Gold & NOT SOLID!!! None of these Will Survive Intact, like Real Solid 9 ct, 18ct etc.

Earrings, Charms & Pendants  are a problem, as many do Not have Hallmarking, [Anything under 1 Gram ,does Not Have to Be Hallmarked] the Seller should Always Gaurantee they have been Acid Tested with Money Back Gaurantee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some Jewellery items from the UK have been altered,  meaning Larger Or Smaller Sizing & this sometimes takes out the Hallmarking, but buy from a Reputable Seller, With a Gaurantee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUTHENTIC Antique & Vintage Jewellery is Very Expensive, so do make sure you have all Measurements & Weights before Bidding.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY LARGE, BRITISH VINTAGE RINGS GENUINE 9CT AND HEAVY ITEMS, are becoming very hard to purchase at reasonable prices. The GOLD has Risen in price Dramatically. This could be due to the Rarity or Gold Prices Rising!!!!!Heavy means anything from 3 Grams upward, under this the rings are just Normal weight. AT 1.5 Gram, the item is Absolute Rubbish & much to light, which will bend in time.

Very Popular are Turquoise Stones, Seed Pearls,Large Amethyst Cocktail Rings, Old Ruby's, Topaz, Mine Cut Diamonds,Tigers Eye, Garnet, Agate Stones, Smoky Quartz, Black Jet, Opal, Jade[Genuine Jade old cuts, Will Hold it's Colour [And is very Sought After], unlike the new jade of Today, which will fade in time]Citrine,Cabochon Stones, Old Diamond Cuts etc. & Beautiful  Vintage Or Antique pieces of Sterling Silver, which in every case Should Be Hallmarked!!We could go on & on, but it is better to research these Gems in Google. Of course there are many Gems from Victorian & Edwardian times,  so do make sure the Gems, Pearls or Diamonds etc. are Not Damaged in any Way. Art Deco Range produced some Startling Jewellery, as usual Look for the Hallmarks & Year Made etc, if British.

Google will give you a listing of Hallmarks & sometimes you can find the Year Date!!!!!!! If I know that items have survived 50-100 years in Fabulous Condition, I know they are worth buying!!!!!

CARAT SIZE can be very Misleading, eg: Oval 5x3mm=0.25 of a Carat, 7x5mm= 1Carat 11x9mm=4.00 Carat, 14x12mm=8 Carat. Round 4mm=0.25 Carat, 6mm=0.75 Carat,4.5mm 0.33 Carat,Square 8mm 2.9 Carat,5mm 0.75 Carat,10mm 6 Carat.15mm 20.25 Carat.If you dont know the size of say 2 Carat Oval gem, Look it up in Google & they will give you the exact measurement. To many people are buying Rings thinking they are huge, without knowing how big these gems are, Check First. A Reputable Seller should have the Actual measurements in, not just Carat Value.

BRITISH STERLING SILVER: Every item made in the UK especially newer item's, should have an Essay Office Mark, including 925. I have however acquired Many Antique or Vintage Sterling Silver, with nothing but the 925 hallmark. To be fair, sometimes as with old hallmarking, they can have been made in another Country & brought back into UK ,Many Years Ago. I did have an Absolutely Beautiful Sterling Silver Brooch, with an old piece of Jade in the Middle & this was Authentic, but the only Hallmarking was 925. I have a Ring in Sterling Silver, very, very old with a pearl & discs on the top & this also has 925, but on the outside of the band, Not In. I am finding Antique, Vintage  Sterling Silver, Made in other Countries is Very Hard to Date. The Style & Condition usually gives me a good idea when they were Made. Also many Rings have been Resized & they sometimes cut out the rest of Hallmarking, so it is very hard & Harder Still are Hand Made Pieces, with just 925.

I HAVE TO SAY HONESTLY, EVERY ITEM I RECEIVE FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM, IS ALWAYS IN FABULOUS CONDITION. I AM ALWAYS AMAZED AT ITEMS, THAT ARE 50-100 YEARS OLD & WHEN CLEANED, LOOK LIKE NEW. I GUESS THAT SHOWS YOU HOW WELL THE MAKER'S MADE THIS JEWELLERY!!!!!!!

RESIZING FACT'S:::: Be careful when buying items that say can be Resized Easily, as this is NOT So. If a shank on a ring is fine & you would like to alter to a Larger size, say 2-3 sizes, most Jewelers will Not Do this , as the Shank weakens so much. To alter Shank smaller, is usually quite easy, but then again depending how many sizes you want to alter. This Practice can distort the whole setting, if you are trying to resize a ring very small. Always check with your Seller!!!!!!!!!!! Good Sellers will tell you the Truth,  others will NOT, just to make a Sale!!!!!!

Australian Antique-Vintage jewellery does not have the same wonderful hallmarking as British,so I would advise to ask a lot of questions regarding the jewellery Origin. Don't forget your weights & measurements?

Regarding Diamond jewellery, always make sure they are Genuine Diamonds & Have the Right Colour & Clarity[Many Diamonds are G-I in Colour But the Clarity is just Terrible}P2, P3 Are Terrible Clarity, READ THE FEEDBACK OF THE SELLER'S PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 BAD SELLERS HAVE CLOSED UP, AND ANOTHER HAS OPENED, SAME SELLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Fake Diamonds Listed as Real are a problem!! POSTAGE COSTS/ watch the Postage costs!!! If a Seller does  Not have Postage Costs inserted in their Listing, be Safe & Email  Seller,before your Bidding Starts. Most Sellers are Reasonable, but there is alway's 1 or 2 who make it hard for the Honest Sellers.Do Not have your Jewellery Items sent by Normal Postage, it is just NOT SAFE. After losing items 2 years ago,sent Normal Postage, I will never send anything good, by Normal Post Again, Be Safe ,always Register. Registered Post does Cover you for $100 Insurance. Postage +Register+Postbag should be around $7.50- $8.50 [Postage cost's Have Gone up]. To Date [3.5 years] I have Never lost a Registered Item!!!!!!!! Express Post Small Bag is $8.50, Sellers are entitled to put a small amount on for Packaging, which should be NO MORE THAN $10 Combined, anymore than this is Outrageous.

PAYING INTO BANK ACCOUNT'S WITH NO GAURANTEE!! I have been Alerted to another problem on Ebay through a Friend off mine who Bought A Handbag 2nd Hand & paid $202 into a Bank Account. Bag was Cracked Leather, just Awful & No Refund!! Paying Money Straight into Bank Account of Sellers that you don't know very well, can leave you Very Vulnerable, with No Gaurantee Whatsoever. Myself I will ONLY BUY WITH PAYPAL, they have an Insurance Policy, that covers you For any Loss or Misrepresentation of Goods OR Buy From A Very Well Know Seller, with The Highest Reputation. Ebay cannot cover you for payments made into Bank Accounts. If you make Payments from your Bank into Someones Account, Please Make Sure you have Insurance from your Bank!! This is another Example of Dealing with Reputable Sellers!!

I have Sold New & Used Jewellery for 11 years, 8 years of that in The Pawnbrokers Trade of New & Vintage Jewellery. In that time I have learnt many aspects of Jewellery!! Buying New & Used Gold on Ebay is Fabulous Value, if you are buying the Genuine Weight, Gems & Diamonds.

ON EBAY: GENUINE 9ct Solid Gold New, sells around $20-$30 per Gram, NEW GENUINE  Rose Gold 9ct is always More Expensive [between $35-$40].It definately Does make a Difference if Genuine Gems are Included, I can just Imagine walking into a Retail Jewelers & Saying "I just Want To Pay For The Gold ,Not The Ruby, Sapphire Etc". I don't think They Would Listen, Do You???. GENUINE 9ct Used Gold sells between $15-$25 per Gram,[Used GENUINE 9-24Carat Gold in Exceptional Condition, will Usually sell for the Highest Amount!!!] Used GENUINE 9ct [Rose Gold will sell around $25-$35 per gram]. 18ct gold New will sell for $40-$50 per gram, Used GENUINE 18ct Gold $25-$40 per Gram. Of course this can all change ,depending what condition item's are in, and also The Gems Included.

RETAIL NEW 9CT GOLD SELLS BETWEEN $80-$100 PER GRAM, GOLD HAS RISEN DRAMATICALLY OVER THE PAST YEAR, BUT OF COURSE EBAY SELLERS DO NOT HAVE THE HIGH OVERHEAD, THAT RETAIL SHOPS DO.

Gold Filled Antique or Vintage item's Can sell for any amount, just make sure you have a Reputable Seller & there is No Damage to The Item.But Remember Gold Filled is NOT SOLID GOLD!!

Large Links in  GENUINE Solid Gold can sometimes be hollow. This does NOT mean that the item is any less Solid Gold. To Achieve the Large Links we Love Today, they simply make the Solid Gold as Tubes & it is put into shape.I know MANY people are confused as to Solid Gold, but hollow inside.If the item you are looking at eg: Bracelets or Necklaces & is Hollow, the good weight makes the difference. I Wear a 9ct Solid Gold Huge Necklace & paid $1500 [purchased from Prouds], but the links are Hollow inside.Mine is Bling at its best.

Genuine Diamonds based on the Sizing, Colour & Clarity, can sell for any amount!!!!!There are 100 Points in A Carat Diamond!! 50 Points is Half a Carat, 25 Points Quarter Carat,Etc!! Ebay does have a Guide for your Colour & Clarity, Please read it when you are thinking of buying that Beautiful Diamond Ring, that looks so lovely in The Picture. Clarity & Colour is very Important!!

The same for Genuine 10k, 14k, 22k, 24k these Solid Gold items can sell for quite a lot. 24k is nearly all Pure Gold, so you will Not find that under $40 per Gram for New or Used!!!PLEASE make sure you are buying your gold from a Well Known Honest Seller, as many of these items[10K,14K,9K, 375] are Asian Made.. & Do Not have the Correct Gold Content!!!

These Guidelines are very Accurate, as I am watching Jewellery from all over The World, and also Australia Ebay. Anything Less Than That Can Be Very Misleading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RECENTLY JUST PUBLISHED: A Survey on On Line Sellers:The Highest Incidence of Crime in The USA is On Line Fraud. One in 5 have suffered with on line Fraud. Please Everyone be careful, this is where Feedback is so important & ask lots of Questions. I don't believe the UK is anywhere near as Bad, but then I have friends in the UK, who have been Mislead with Diamonds Listed as Genuine Diamonds[when in fact they are Glass],Items Listed as Made in the UK, where in fact they are Made In Asia. If you think Something is a Real Bargain from Overseas, think again, as This May Be another Instance Of Fraud. Stick to your Well know Sellers in Australia, with Excellent Feedback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do Believe if All Honest Sellers & Buyers Banded together, there would be a Lot Less of the Dishonesty that is Happening. Just think, if the Bad Press about Dishonest Sellers Keeps up, everyone will Lose some Gorgeous Customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
