Things to check when buying there are a number of things to check when buying a used CAG.
Ensure the bike will hold idle and that there is not too much smoke.

Make sure all brakes are tight and that none of the brake lines are torn.  It is important to check that all tyres are inflated when purchasing the bike as a previously bought bike was sold with the tyres flat and once I got home I found out that both tyres had a puncture.  Make sure the exhaust does not have any cracks.

The bike should start within two to three pulls. It is often a bad idea to buy a bike that's not running if you've never worked on the motor before.  The process of removing the motor can be a time-consuming thing for most people.

If you find there are too many problems with the bike can be often cheaper to buy a new bike.  You know that all the parts are new and that most of the time you're covered by a warranty if there are any faults in delivery.

Let's put this into an example:

CAG pocket bike $100
overall in good Nick, a few scratches on the fairing and but motor does not run, will need a slight cleanup

While looking at this advert you might think $100 is not bad considering it just needs a few minor things but then again you don't know who wrote this article to some people a slight cleanup might be a complete tear down and this might be easy for them. Let's say that motor needed to be rebuilt the gasket set is about $15, first you will have Loosen the chain to remove the motor, the exhaust will have to be removed and then you will need to then replace all these gaskets. There are a number of components in the carburettor that can be very fiddly and these parts aren't always sold separately.

When this bike would be a good idea
if you're considering modifying your bike with a different head kit and exhaust the bike hundred dollars might be quite a good idea as long as the fairing is in good Nick and the frame has no cracks. Since you will be removing the top section of the motor and replacing the crankshaft it won't matter if the motor is not running right.  Even more so when you're changing the carburettor to an aftermarket unit.

EBay is a great place to source out second hand and new pocket bike parts.  By searching through you can often find nearly every spare part on the market.  Replacement parts such as Pull starts can be purchased for as cheap as $14.99 with seven dollars postage.  The reason for this cheap price is because most of the parts are coming directly from China.

When you consider what is involved in making a pocket bike from scratch, with all the materials needed its surprising that they can sell them on lines for $200 new. The reason behind this cheap price is due to cheap labour in China and cheaper materials used in the manufacturing of these bikes. Unfortunately though this can be one of their biggest downfalls as some of the time you will find their manufacturing process can be faulted with incorrectly welded frames and frames that just don't seem to line up properly with the rest of the bike.  Don't let this deter you though, they are still worth the price they are asking for online.
