So you want to buy clothes? No problem! Sure, most people think that it's out of the question because you can't physically try it on, but with the power of eBay, you can take advantage of the visuals, the written information, the the option to ask a seller a question.
Things to consider:
1. Does it fit?
For shoes- consult a chart (there are a few online, Google it). Be sure you know what shoe size the shoes are in, and double check the size that you are! Don't forget to also check out the width of the shoes, badly made ones can be painful to wear!
For tops- to ensure a perfect fit, a good idea is to take a top similar in style that you may own, and make measurements of that. Compare with the seller's measurements, and ask for more if needed. Common areas of measurements that you can take are: -bust- around the fullest part, high bust- from armpit to armpit, waist- where you bend, hips- below waist, around the fullest part, arm- from shoulder point to wrist, upper arm- from shoulder point to middle of elbow, arm width- around the upper arm at its fullest part
For pants- keep in minde the rise you want, the length, and the type of cut, the colour and ofcourse, the general style of it. Rips? Fade? Zips? Pockets? There are great eBay guides out there detailing the specific cuts- wide leg, stove pipe... go check them out!
2. How much is it?
Ok, so this is a bit obvious, but sometimes when you are buying particular brands, price matters! Don't be surprised to see Sass and Bide or Tsubi clothes going into the the hundreds. But do remember that most of the time, the clothes are second hand, even if they have only worn it once or twice, so try and research to see the real price and make a little budget of your own.
3. Look at and read everything!
This is very important when it comes to buying online, as you cannot physically talk to the sales assistant nor can you just return it with the receipt. It's more complicated, and be sure to spot where it says "Seller not responsible for itmes lots or damaged in post!" You're safest bet is to get postage insurance, but then again, that is more. Other things to read are about return policies, payment details and various rules that you must accept with you place a bid.
For pictures, it is very common for sellers to put a stolen image from somebody else's listing, or just a generic picture from the website of the clothing company. This is really sneaky, it leads you to believe that the condition of the clothes are perfect and will look great as demonstrated by this ultra skinny digitally enhanced model who is wearing the item which is not really same size as in the listing.
In conclusion, don't be afraid to ask! For extra pictures, measurements, details on its condition, if you are unsure about the information given, ask! If you think the postage is ridiculously high, ask about it! Most of the time it is because sellers are wanting to make a profit from that, but sometimes it's a general postage that applies for everyone, even someone who lives in the same city.
Remember: get a quote, stay informed, read the information more than once!
