There are certain situations in life that will necessitate the purchase of a foosball table. What are some of these I hear you ask? Well, you could be living in a University lodge and yearning for entertainment; you could be looking for a way to attract European backpackers to your share accommodation; or you could be working for an employer with a very cool culture that would just benefit tremendously from having a foosball table in the office. Whatever the situation is, I’ve been there and done the research, so I thought I’d share with you the only brand of foosball table I think you should be looking at.
The Tornado range of foosball tables is made by a US company called Dynamo who are one of the leaders in gaming machines such as pool tables, air hockey tables and video game cabinetsfor companies like Sega, Atari, and Namco. The Tornado table is commonly referred to as the best foosball in the world, and in many respects it is. The key benefit is what fooser’s refer to as ‘playability’, and by that they mean the ability to control the ball and unleash complex plays against your opponent. There are a few things that enable this, firstly it’s the construction of the little foosball guys on the table. They’re solid, perfectly weighted and the feet in particular are shaped to allow easy passing between players on the same rod and brutal strikes on goal. This combined with great friction inducing grips, markers on the pitch that allow you to determine your shot, and counterbalanced rods to allow your players to ‘keep their feet up’; all combine to give you the most sophisticated foosball experience in the world. The only real con about the Tornado range of tables is that they’re not particularly great to look at. They all have a very plain, function look about them and will definitely not be the artistic centerpiece of any space. All in all though, I would say that they are the greatest foosball tables in the world. Tornado offer a range of tables that scrimp on quality of construction the further down in price you go. Here’s what they are from cheapest to most expensive.
- Whirlwind
- Twister II
- Storm II
- Cyclone II
- Tournament 2000
In my opinion the Storm II is the best looking table at a reasonable price (we have one in the office). Best of luck with your purchase and happy foos’ing.
