PACKING YOUR ITEM

Whether you are New to eBay selling or an old hand packing your item for transit is still a very important part of the transaction

So your item has ended the winning bid placed, the money transferred... the transaction is far from over. Until your item arrives safely at its destination the transaction is not complete.

So when packing your item there are several things to consider, the type, shape and overall size of your item.
If being posted it needs to be able to stand up to some pretty rough treatment (could you drop it from shoulder height and it not break ?)

Bubble wrap is good I personally use heaps of it
 
Shredded paper is also handy (get some newspapers and start shredding!), don't allow the newspaper to directly come in contact with your item, just incase of "print bleed"

Then you have the more purpose designed packaging materials such as polystyrene beans, air filled pillows etc, if you are going to be a regualr seller difinately look into these!!
 
Don't over do it with your packing, but there again don't under do it, You dont want your item arriving in bits!

Now here is an example if you were going to send a beer glass to someone

Firstly choose a box as to allow packing around it
Wrap your glass in bubble wrap and secure with tape, line the bottom of the box with shredded paper place the glass in (making sure NO part of the glass touches the sides of the box) stuff more shredded paper down the sides and on top finally close your package with packing tape.

If packing multiple items wrap each individually then pack as tight and neat as possible
Movment within a box will cause rubbing or breakage.

Packing an item well doesn't always mean that it has to be heavy!

If posting non fragile items (clothes etc) big manilla envelopes serve well as does brown kraft paper, secured with packaging tape, or if you prefer pre-paid satchuals, we do not personally use pre paid bags but they do serve the purpose well.

Try not to go for the, wrapped in a garbage bag look !! IT IS VERY TACKY!!... and YES I have recieved many items wrapped this way, needless to say I was not a return customer

AT THE END OF THE DAY HOW YOUR ITEM ARRIVES IS A DIRECT REFLECTION OF YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS,

A FEW EXTRA MINUTES SPENT IS A LOT BETTER FOR YOU AND YOUR BUYERS!

ADDRESSING

Often not thought much about but accounts for a high proportion of all lost or misplaced items in the post.

When addressing your package write (PRINT) clearly and consisely, here a couple of examples

john smith
123 smith
street
melbourne au 3030

This is NOT Correct the address lines are wrong and obvoiusly the postcode is for a suburb not Melbourne (check with your buyer their suburb if in doubt)

It should look like this

John Smith
123 Smith St,
Werribee VIC 3030

The poor old postie can only deliver what gets to the delivery centre, if not addressed correctly the automated postage services cannot distribute it quickly and efficiently.

ALWAYS PUT A RETURN TO SENDER ON YOUR PARCEL... NOT JUST A "FROM: SELLER 'XYZ EBAY' EITHER"

It is also worth mentioning to always remember, when quoting postage that Aust Post uses the cubing rule as well as weight for larger boxed items.
