Hello everyone!
This guide is basically about latency timings of desktop or laptop computer RAM, and things to consider when purchasing RAM.
Firstly, i will talk about the latency of RAM. RAM timings (also known as latency) are the numbers that RAM is rated at, for example 2.5-3-3-8. The lower the numbers, the better the RAM is.
The first number is the CAS latency of the RAM. That is basically the most important figure when looking at RAM, because it determines the quality of the RAM (the lower the better), and the overclockability of the RAM (the lower the CAS latency, the better the RAM is able to overclock).
The second thing is what dual channel means. Dual channel RAM is when two sticks are used together for optimum speeds and performance. When two or more sticks of RAM are used together, dual channel is highly recommended as it increases performance greatly. Although this is the case, the RAM MUST BE 'dual channel' compatible.
The third and final thing about RAM is the density of the chip. Low density is always prefered RAM as it is a lot faster and has a better chip configuration. High density RAM is just the 'left over' RAM, basically the 'factory seconds' and are much slower, thats why they are much cheaper.
Thanks for reading my guide about RAM. Hopfully it helps you when you are choosing what RAM to buy.
Cheers!
