This guide will explain most of the Toyota Landcruiser models made from 1960 until 1983 and their variations

There ARE many variations -

The early models have different doors,engines even the bonnet can change!

The FJ40 started production in 1960 and though to 1976 there were no changes. In 1976 they added disk brakes (recommended) and in 1979 they added air conditioning and power steering to the options (if you can find one with both of these options it should be a great buy!) their were also models like the FJ41 and FJ42 which are basically the same. These cars are known as Short Wheel Base (SWB) models. ALL FJ models had a petrol engine (leaded petrol)

The FJ45 was avaliable in a troop carrier (troopie) which was a very short lived cruiser. Or a ute version both of these were long wheel base (LWB) models. ALL FJ models had a petrol engine (leaded petrol)

The engines used in these Petrol cars were the F engine and the 2F engine. the F engine was a 6cyl 3.8 litre engine ranging from 105-to-125 Horse power and was used from 1960 to 1974. The 2F is a 6cyl 4.2 litre engine producing 135 horse power and was used from 1974 to 1984.

The BJ40 is the diesel version of the FJ40 it had a 4cyl 3 litre engine although there where some changes throughout its life. The B series motor is a 4 cylinder diesel, and the H series a 6 cylinder diesel.

Because of the subtle variations some people refer part to fitting your car as -This part will fit all FJ4#- this simply means it will fit all the petrol models

Sometime people refer to parts fitting all the J40 series cars. meaning all 40 series Landcruisers
