I think people should be made aware of the very many fake gramophones being sold on ebay as antiques. If it has a fluted horn - it's a fake. If it's very shiny brass - it's a fake. If it's a small octagonal table top model - it's a fake. If it looks shiny and new it probably is. I have heard they are currently being mass produced in India. The real antique gramophones are usually in a cabinet with the horn built into the cabinet under the turntable. Sometimes there is room to store records, too. So if you are looking for a genuine antique gramophone - caveat emptor!
