Note For People Buying Foo Fighters Tickets to Opera House

A quick note for anyone trying to buy Foo Fighters tickets for the Opera House Acoustic concert held in Sydney on the 3,4,5th of October. As you may have well noticed the face value of tickets for this concert are just under $150 which is slightly more than usual for this band, the reason for this is that the Foo Fighters and Ticketek have co-operated to avoid ticket scalping.

As the Ticketek website itself says:

"In response to ticket scalping concerns, procedures will be put in place to ensure the best seats end up in the hands of Foos fans, not in the wallets of scalpers."

Part of the 'procedures' is the cancellation of tickets shown on eBay. Although in many cases Ticketek has contacted buyers instructing them to remove the auctions and that their tickets will be refunded it is then up to the buyer to comply, and for those situations where Ticketek is unable to get in touch the tickets are simply cancelled and relisted on their site.

There is always a risk when buying tickets from eBay, and feedback or high volume sales are never a guarantee that a ticket is authentic or that it will get you into a concert, so be careful when buying these tickets and consider if you would usually trust the word of a few dozen people you've never met before (the equivalent of eBay feedback) when buying tickets from a stranger for several hundred dollars.

As a final note, in case you're wondering why I'm writing this... I purchased 4 tickets instead of 3 for the concert and listed the spare one on eBay. I received a call from Ticketek to say that they are trialling new measures and are offering full refunds to people who purchased tickets but are unable to use them, but that any tickets purchased on eBay would be cancelled.

I cannot say whether this process is in place for other concerts or venues, and hope that everyone who buys or sells tickets to this event has a successful transaction and enjoys the show. If you do have problems with your transaction please contact me and I will add the seller's name at the bottom of this post.

Update

It seems there have been some changes in the world of Ticketek. They appear to now be saying that it's fine for people wanting a refund to sell their tickets as long as they are sold for face value. I guess that means that you can legally put them up for the face value on a Buy It Now plus probably a few dollars to cover eBay fees and Ticketek booking fees. Thank you to everyone who emailed offering their own experiences with these tickets.
