Iam a creative person and i know a few others that are also, if you have any wool,knitting needles,crochet hooks,sewing or tapestry items you have no need for,why not give them to the red-cross lady's,or the lady's that knit and sew for the hospitals,iam only one of millions of women that knit and sew for the charities,if you have no need for them iam sure that most of the sewing knitting groups would appreciate those needles and other items you have no need for.One particular friend of mine would crochet the blankets and i would knit them for the homeless,when we gave these people the blankets there face would light up with such gratitude,that is the gift,to make these people happy that have so little makes the world a better place,if you have any wool or left over torn blankets,we can recycle them,i too would make sure that they recieve them also,as xmas will be here soon have some thought for these people.It's so easy to throw out the things when a mother or grandmother dies especially if you dont knit or sew.Give away the clutter ,and make someones day. Just food for thought.Most community centres would appreciate these things to,neighbourhood centres,poor areas,centres for abused women and children,homeless men and women,sometimes it can be your own neighbours.Caring for others is the same as caring for your own "soul".
