Are you thinking of bidding for a very cheap soccer jersey on eBay? PLEASE BE AWARE!!!

I have fallen into the trap so now I want to share a valuable piece of information with you. So I hope this guide will help you make a better decision before you place that bid!

HOW TO SPOT FAKE AUCTION PAGES

• Watch out for listings from Malaysia and Thailand. I'm not saying everything from eBay Malaysia and eBay Thailand are fake, and there are still sellers who genuinely wants to sell their products, but it has been known that a significant number of fake football shirts are listed on these sites.
• Identify the pricing: usually around the £20 mark, and usually offers Buy It Now.
• Usually have numerous listings of the same item (but in different sizes) showing up in the search result.
• Below is an example of a fake page selling a signed Liverpool jersey. The description is shabby and there is only one single picture, usually low quality. Do you think one would sell a real signed jersey with so little description?

• Bidding starts at £0.99, and the bidders are privatised. DO NOT BID if the buyer IDs are hidden. Usually the sammers use another account to drive up the auction and use enter spoof feedback to boost their ratings.

HOW TO SPOT DODGY SELLERS/SCAMMERS

• Contact the seller before you bid. If you do not get a reply DO NOT BID. If you get a one-line response, beware. I bought a shirt from a scammer that does not even respond to my complaints for refund. BEWARE!
  
• Ask the seller regarding refund and postage for return. If he or she is selling genuine shirts, they will be confident that you will not ask for a refund. Ask them whether they are willing to pay for the postage to be sent back in the event that they sold you a fake shirt. If they do not agree on this DO NOT BID. If they agree, the seller should be selling genuine products. You can use the message as a legal evidence in case you have received a fake shirt and he or she is unwilling to pay for the return postage.
• For overseas bidders especially, it is difficult to get the seller to refund you, let alone asking for the return postage. Yes, if you use PayPal it is covered under the Buyers' Protection Programme but it will take ages to get your refund back -- especially when the seller is not cooperating and you can only resort to escalating the case. You have to post the item back on your own cost and send PayPal your proof of delivery. If you do live in the same country where the shirts came from, you can threaten legal action against the seller once he or she has provided the address for the refund.
  

HOW TO SPOT FAKE ADIDAS SHIRTS

Below I have taken a number of pictures of fake shirts comparing to some real shirts I own. Please spot the differences carefully and ask the seller to send you photographs if you are unsure whether the shirt you are bidding is authentic.
