We all know how important it is to get a good fit with jeans! Many people say that they would NEVER buy jeans from Ebay because you don't know how they will fit. I specialise in selling jeans (used and new) and have mostly happy customers, so it can be done. The trick is to provide the potential customers with enough information that they can tell how the jeans will fit them. Surprisingly, many jean sellers do not do this effectively.

The title is important! Your buyers want to know the style and approximate size of the jeans straight out, so they only look at jeans they might buy. And if you don't put the right words in there, potential buyers cannot find your item in a search. So think about what people might search for when you write the title:Example of search

Good pictures are ESSENTIAL! (though if you are a buyer and know exactly what the item is, you may get a bargain if the picture is very poor!). My experience tells me that the quality of the picture often determines whether you get a good price for the jeans or not.

You need a decent closeup and a full length view:

OK, now to make sure your customers are HAPPY!

Tell the truth about the condition of the jeans; are they apparently new/unworn, or nicely worn in? If there is a mark, signs of wear or any damage, let them know and offer to send closeups if they want.

Give them all the details they need to get a good fit. Firstly, give the size stated on the garment, for example US10JrM, and convert to Australian (slim 12R) and UK (slim 14R) sizes. Then measure the jeans. Measurements I usually supply are:

Around the waistband, measured across the band with the jeans flat and then doubled.

Hips, measured the same way, at the broadest part, where you would measure your own hips. This is often at the base of the zip.

Front rise, or the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband at the front. This determines how low the jeans look at the front, so is vital!

Back rise, the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband at the back. This determines the back coverage, so your buyer can avoid exposing more than they wish to!

Inside leg, the distance from the crotch seam to the cuff at the bottom of the leg. This tells your customers whether the jeans will drag on the ground or freeze their ankles.

These measurements are mostly offered in inches and in cm. Yeah I know conversion is no big deal, but it saves all those questions from people who only think in one or the other!

Finally, are the jeans rigid or stretchy? What degree of stretch? Does the waistband stretch?

Remind your buyers that the best way to get a good fit is to compare the supplied measurements with a pair of their own jeans that fits the way they like. And let them know that you are always available to provide additional information or photos.

Yep, all this involves work and attention to detail. But you do get happy customers :)
