PALM PROTECTION GLOVES.

Motorcyclist gloves now have been designed and constructed to provide a new level of palm protection to reduce the potential of injury in an accident.  The gloves are now available in Australia.

Currently most gloves have additional padding only, however the new HIT AIR range provides the first and only palm protection using hard Kevlar (carbon fibre) fittings at the metacarpal (ball of the palm) area.

So now riders have a choice of not only skin protection, but also impact protection!

The new hard Kevlar protective inserts enable:
  1.  the distribution of impact forces from and accident, as well as
  2.  reducing the friction effects of the gloves on the road surface.
  3.  the rider can hold the throttle in place and then be free to flex fingers and thumb to exercise and reduce hand tension.
Distribution of the impact forces will:
  • reduce impact hand pain and injuries to the soft tissue hand area.
Reduction of friction will:
  • reduce the potential to have the glove torn - resulting in potential loss of skin and flesh from the hand, or at worst,
  • cause the hand and arm being dragged under the body also causing wrist and finger breakage.

NOTE: This guide is based on the gloves and airbag jackets by HIT AIR from Japan (Mugen Denko Co Ltd) which have been on the market since 1985 and have a proven safety record.  HIT AIR is the airbag jacket market leader with several thousand units sold throughout Asia, Europe and Australia and now also the US.  HIT AIR have provided their airbag system to many other jacket manufacturers esp. in Europe but now also produce their own range of jackets and vests.

We [Hit Air Australia] are the exclusive Australian distributors of this product and wish to provide this advice for eBay users as we are strongly interested in the safety of riders and pillions.

We do not sell by eBay but directly over the web from our own website, but may do so in the future if there is interest.   Few jackets or gloves ever appear on eBay as owners do seem to keep them close!

We have briefly described the airbag system on a separate eBay Guide and have provided more detailed information at our own site www.hitairaustralia.com with links to many other safety and interest areas.  There are now some copies of the airbag system from Taiwan and Spain and a few other airbag designs on the market.

This Guide is NOT meant to be read as a commercial but as these products are design leaders there are few competitors so other gear has to be examined and compared with the additional features offered by these models.

HIT AIR

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (Feb. 2008):
PS: A note on sizing ... HIT AIR Gloves are labeled in the Japanese (JP) sizes - these are one size higher on the scale than European/US/Australian sizes
 - ie. Japanese XL is European/US/Australian  L; etc. eg. 2XL>XL; L>M
[sorry for any confusion. it also is a bit of a pain for our ordering/supply too.]

A good motorcycle glove information reference is:
      www.roadsafety.mccofnsw.org.au/a/86.html
HOWEVER they do NOT cover the unique PALM PROTECTION features offered by HIT AIR.
Note the first paragraph in the CONSTRUCTION (of gloves "what to look for") Section.

Further references and links are provided on our Website - Glove section.

===>>>    ASSESS YOUR OWN RISKS FROM THE FOLLOWING RESEARCH    >>>

Proportion of all motorcycle rider casualties with injuries to to the hand:
  • Proportion of all injured riders: 30%
  • Proportion with soft tissue injuries: 27%
  • Proportion with fractures: 7%
Riders wearing gloves are 50% less likely to injure their hands [Hurt et al, 1981].

IN OTHER WORDS YOU HAVE A 1 in 3 CHANCE WHEN YOU ARE INJURED OF HAVING HAND DAMAGE !!!  THINK HOW MUCH YOU NEED YOUR HANDS !!!  NOW ALWAYS USE GLOVES WHEN YOU RIDE AND SAVE YOURSELF THE POTENTIAL PAIN, DAMAGE, LOSS, COST, RECUPERATION AND INCONVENIENCE.
