REGISTERED POST provides additional protection for important items by offering proof of posting, signature on delivery and Extra Cover (formerly insurance), which offers additional compensation up to $5000. By registering your postage, it means you insured the item which cover up to AU$100.
Some advantages when you Registered or Insured the item:
1. Trackable item whith a unique identification number
2. Proof of Posting
3. A signature obtained on delivery
4. Insurance up to AU$100
While the REGULAR POST does not provide any advantages from the above list

Case:
* What will happen if NO ONE at HOME to receive the package?
As the Registered Post required a signature on delivery, the items must be signed by receiver. On the case, no one at home, the postman leave a notification card in your mailbox. This means you have to pick it up from the closest post office.
Regular mail is just deliver to your mailbox, but if the item is too big for mailbox, then postman will leave a notification card for pick up at specified post office on the card.

For peace of mind, Registered Post is recommended.
