Back in 1933 my parents received a wedding gift of Oneida Community Grosvenor cutlery with place settings for six probably sent from England. Upon their death I inherited this set and about two years ago noticed that some pieces were missing. I started buying the missing pieces on eBay and then decided to expand the set to place settings for twelve plus all the serving pieces. I then considered that Grosvenor cutlery would be good for me to give as wedding presents and so an obsession started in collecting this pattern until now when I have probably more than a thousand pieces. These pieces include examples of every piece made (except the very rare stuffing spoon) but not the variations of each piece. My original inheritance included six fish knives and forks. It seems these must be very rare because I have never seen them for sale on eBay nor mentioned in any literature. My guess is they were only made in England and not in the US.

The Grosvenor pattern is very rare in Australia so 99% of my purchases have been from the US. Now (June 2006) seems to be a good time to buy. Prices are low and supply is plentiful.

Collecting Oneida Community cutlery has become a very real hobby and interest but at the same time cleaning it has become a drudgery but nevertheless after cleaning a piece it looks absolutely beautiful and to me is a glory to behold.

Nowadays I only seldom make purchases but I still take a keen interest in what Grosvenor is available on eBay as well as other patterns.

You could make this your hobby too and become fixated by it like I have.
