The Football / Soccer Boots Guide - Football Boot Care

By Mathew Ryan (matryan1)

There are numerous types of football codes around the world.  Football codes auch as:  Australian Rules Football (AFL), Irish Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Gridiron (American Football).  In all of these different football codes all of the players have something in common, their football boots (soccer shoes or cleats)!

A Footballers boots are the most important part of his / her equipment.  A guide to football boot care is presented here.

Care of your Football Boots

After you finish a match or a practice session, you will need to prepare your boots for your next wearing.  Taking care of your football boots improves their performance and wearable life.  So to do so please follow these steps:

1. When you take off your football boots always undo the laces properly first.

2. Always remove any soil stuck to the sole of your boots.  Either by banging them together (sole to sole) or by using a brush.  This is very important! Not just for appearance sake, but to prolong boot life as mud can draw moisture out of the leather and ruin them.

3. Wipe the outside of the boots with a damp cloth, to remove any excess soil.

4. Stuff your boots with old newpaper to dry the interior of your boots and to ensure that your boots retain their shape.  Then put them in a cool shady place to dry.  Never heat dry your boots as they age quickly and crack (Dry rot).

5. If you have screw in studs, you should grease them occasionally to ensure that they don't rust.

6. Polish the exterior of your boots with either boot polish or a waterproofing spray.  Never use oil or detergents!

I hope that this Football / Soccer Boot guide has educated you on how to look after your football boots to ensure that they stay in good condition.  "Remember a footballer's most important piece of equipment is his or her boots".
