Modern beauty products and methods have given us concealer, botox and derma-peels- perhaps handy for some, but I believe it is the so-called 'old-fashioned' methods that truly give the modern and fashion savvy woman a timeless and classic look; with less effort, less costs and more attractiveness.
'Vintage' Everyday Beauty Styling Tips
-
LOOK AFTER YOUR SKIN
If you do this well and as soon and as long as you can, your skin will remain in healthy for a long time yet.
- ALWAYS CLEANSE YOUR SKIN AT LEAST ONCE A DAY
Don't let yourself get lazy- there are plenty of products out there that clean the skin well. Personally, I love Clinique products as they remove the day's makeup and oils thoroughly. Try soaps that are designed for the skin on your face, or gels, or cleansing wipes. Facial wipes are great to keep near your bed- when you realise, once in bed, that you haven't removed your make-up a convenient makeup remover is super handy!
- ALWAYS ALWAYS REMOVE YOUR MAKE-UP BEFORE BED!
After approx 12 hours the makeup on your skin 'disintergrates' or dissolves into the skin- if you don't remove the makeup every night, you will develop a build up of makeup gunk in your pores and hello! blackheads and pimples.
- USE TONING/LIQUID (CHEMICAL) EXFOLIATING PRODUCTS
By doing so after cleansing morning and night, your skin will be cleaned from within the pores to the top layers of your skin and be super smooth and fresh. I love Clinique 'Step 2' for the chemical exfoliating effects.
- USE A GOOD QUALITY FACIAL SCRUB AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK (DEPENDING ON SKIN TYPE)
By doing so, you will swipe of dead skin cells to reveal fresher smoother skin, smooth out pores (even making them smaller with time), and keep you skin in tip top shape.
- MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE
Your Grandma was right- moisturiser is key to healthy beatiful skin. I don't believe you have to spend hundreds on moisturisers. I think it's more of a matter of finding the right product for you. Be sure to use after cleansing and toning morning and night. Moisturiser will also help your makeup go on smoother and stay on longer.
2. I HAVE A THEORY- HAIR LOVES PRODUCT VARIETY, SKIN DOESN'T.
I find that my hair improves in volume if I change/interchange my shampoo and conditioner, however my skin (and maybe yours) prefers to have the same brand, strength and product used. By keeping a skin routine the skin has steady oil levels and won't over produce oils due to over stimulation or excess 'good' oil removal.
3. HAVE YOUR EYEBROWS PROFESSIONALLY STYLED AT LEAST ONCE
You can then maintain that look at home with regular tweezing. Don't for godsake overpluck! Do it in natural light and don't go crazy. If unsure, come back later to refine. Tame eyebrows with moisturiser or clear gel designed for eyebrows. Avoid the thin look, natural sculptured arches are more attractive.
4. USE A FACE MASK ONCE A WEEK
If you have oily skin try clay based masks- if you have dry skin try a cream based mask to avoid overdrying skin.
5. HAVE A GOOD DIET
I'm not sure if I believe that chocolate is bad for your skin, but obviously the better your diet, the better your skin.
These tips are rocket science and are certainly not original- but I think they are some of the best; tried and tested- I just think it's best to think about preventative measures before taking more drastic measures.
