Quite often you’ll see a “headphone microphone adaptor” available as a generic accessory for your phone, and more often than not, they will be located in Hong Kong. Now, there are two types of these;
- A unit which will have the hands-free cable, shirt clip, microphone (with answer/end button on back) and 3.5mm adapter)
- An all in one unit, which has a custom housing designed by the manufacturers that incorporates the shirt clip, microphone, answer/end button, and 3.5mm adapter into the one structure at the end of the cable.
For the first type, I cannot speak, as I have not used one of these yet (once I have I will update this guide). But I will be shortly, as I have bought the different models of the second type, and they are all unsatisfactory. For some reason, they are always designed so that the 3.5mm connector is weak, and upon inserting and removing a 3.5mm plug, the socket will break first time.
I will update this guide when more information becomes available to me.
