hi there it is thecrazyozzy here!

Thanks for reading my guide on how good are ceramic hair straighteners?.

I have experience in this area as i have been a hairdresser for one of Australia's top hairdressing salons for about 12 years and have used numerous hair straighteners. I am going to keep it really simple and not get to into all of the terms and  technicalities of the hair straightening iron  what i am going to do is list a few things to look for when you are ready to purchase an iron.

  • First and foremost the hair iron must be able to get to a HOT but consistent temperature say around the 200 c is a good temperature
  • 110-220v is good and dual voltage these days is a great option to have as you can travel and still use your iron anywhere in the world.
  • Tourmaline coated plates is essential
  • Power 35 watts
  • 1 inch plate Great for fringes , bobs and longer hair! I find the larger plates just aren't as versatile and easy to use.
  • Spring loaded (this means that the iron is able to get a tighter grip on the hair as you are straightening .)
  • Also you need to have a comb not a brush as the brush rips your hair whilst your wide tooth comb will glide through your hair as you are straightening it .
  • A leave in conditioner is essential but beware of cheap silicone based products as the silicone acts like plastic coating on your hair and can burn your hair not protect it ( I have seen this when we were doing a Vidal Sassoon course in LA !) it was done buy one of the people was doing the course also. Just use a leave in conditioner.

Just use the points i have made when making a decision on what hair straightener to buy and this should help.

GOOD LUCK
